Out of the dozens of cylinders I've ported over the years, I haven't done a whole lot of early banshees. Most of them have been at least 95 or newer. The last while I've gotten a couple of sets of earlier banshee cylinders in and have noticed that the factory casings on them are much cleaner (less flawed) than the later years. I was just curious to see how many of the other builders have noticed the same thing?? I think yamaha's quality control on the banshee castings went by the wayside the last few model years. Doing a set of jugs from an 89 right now and have noticed almost no casting flaws on them.

Id say when the demand went up they started to cast them quicker. only thing i can really think of... that or cheap Mexican labor with shitty quality control

I second that, and from what iv herd a lot of banshee's (or Yamaha's in general) wear made i Mexico and i can't see them making them to perfection, or anything close.

But it could be a number of things.
