YTRY4 Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Hey guys, I have a 2008 Banshee and had a big hit a couple of weeks ago, im ok and can walk again but i need to replace my rear axel on the shee. Is it a easy process and is there any thing i need to look out for? Can't find much with the search function on the forum, I'll get some pics online soon. Quote
Wildcardracing Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Which side is it bent on? If on the sprocket side, you'll likely have to cut the axle to get it out. If on the brake side it's much easier. To remove it you'll have to remove your hubs and undo the lock nuts next to the sprocket, then just pull it out from the brake side. Make sure to check your swinger really close, I've rarely seen one hit hard enough to bend the axle and not damage the swingarm and or carrier. Quote
YTRY4 Posted July 8, 2008 Author Report Posted July 8, 2008 This is about 2 hours before the crash on the back of my ute. Quote
YTRY4 Posted July 8, 2008 Author Report Posted July 8, 2008 This is some damage after the roll on the top Quote

Its on the sprocket side, its not a huge bend so im not sure if i will be able to get it off with out cuting it. Quote
Wildcardracing Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 If it's not bent too bad, you may be able to pull it without cutting it. Forgot to tell you to loosen the chain, this will make it easier to pull out. Quote

Erwin8r Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Will do, thanks for the info  You'll need a 50mm wrench to loosen/undo the axle nuts. And you might have to take a rubber mallet to it in order to help it "walk ou." I just replaced my axle on Sunday (I'm fairly new to working on ATV's), and I found it was a lot easier than I thought... Good luck. Quote

Don't remember anything being "anti-clockwise", though I do like that term, popular in F1  Quote
Erwin8r Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 I'll be taking it off this weekend and i'll let you know how it goes. Definitely normal thread. i.e. "Lefty Loosey, Righty Tighty." I used a massive Crescent wrench from Harbor Freight Tools. The proper 50mm open end wrench from Motion Pro might have been better, but I had no trouble... Quote
YTRY4 Posted July 12, 2008 Author Report Posted July 12, 2008 Lefty Loosey, Righty Tighty  Axel is now out, it just had a heap of Locktite on the thread. Thanks for the help guys. Quote
