87bansheeguy Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 i have all of the bolt on mods possible i am soon adding 20cc domes and running pump gas i would like to get a mild trail port job done will this effect my engine life, will the crank need to be welded, will i need a new clutch, and how much hp could i be running??with a mild port Quote
2001Stroker Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 I think 21cc would be about as small as you can go without switching to at least a 50/50 mix of race fuel. With higher compressions, it would definitely be a great idea to weld and true your crank. As far as buying a new clutch, it's always a good idea to upgrade everything, but unless you plan on racing it, I would keep the one you got until it takes a shit. But, if you got the money to blow, get it. It's really impossible to say how much horsepower you'll get with your mods and a mild port. One company could give you a mild port and ruin your engine, when another company could do the same port and really kick your bike in the ass. It all depends on if the machinist knows what they're doing. Are you going to go bigger on displacement? Bore or stroke? You're spending alot of money on an '87. You wouldn't at least want to upgrade to an A-Arm frame? I'm not trying to knock what you got, but you're planning on spending lots of money on upgrades, might as well start out with a better platform. Quote

I was thinking about upgrading to the a-arm frame but im just gonna go with D-Arms i like the fact that its 21years old and can still run with bikes 3 and 4 years old and im proud to say that im the original owner so yeah im going to get my port work done localy ive herd good stuff about them but if the fuck up w.e ill just buy new stock cylinders and send it into some real professionals. I dont plan on going any bigger on displacment soon but maybe in a couple months. i would love to get around 60-65 hp Quote

But, instead of taking a chance with the local guys, I would send the jugs to Kevin. He knows what he's doing, and has been doing Banshees for a long time. Why spend the money twice, or even more? Just my thought. If you are planning on boring/stroking the engine in a few months, your jugs will be trash anyways if you get a port done now. If you got the money, go ahead and bore it and stroke it first, then send the jugs and pistons out for porting. You're kind of doing it backwards, and you're going to spend alot more money in the long run like that. Quote

mopar1rules Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 How long will a port job last?? and if i overbore it will and get new pistons will i get a good performance gain? a port job will last the life of the cylinders, as long as the 1st port job is good enough, that you don't send the cylinders back out and get a new/better port job. port jobs don't have a life expectency like rings or bearings. once the ports are cut, they're cut. also, you will get a noticable gain from a good port job. not so much of a gain from boring out the cylinders.
