banshee_boi17 Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 hey guys i need help i need to find out what i will need to up my piston size to get 400 cc banshee what size mm will i need and what all will i have to do when i change my pistons thanx guys Quote
dajogejr Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 Put a stroker crank in, the factory cylinders can only be bored out so far, and you bore them out to freshen up the motor to keep clearnaces in check, not to make more power.... A stroker crank will give you added cc's without wasting bores on the cylinders... Wait, are your cylinders ported yet? Quote

dajogejr Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 Ok...I know you're new....so...Stop. Get rid of the boost bottle, it's garbage. Second, figure out your budget. Does it have pipes, aftermarket air filters? Before you go out and make a motor 400ccs, get it ported. Making the engine bigger alone won't do much for you. Get the cylinders ported. It will be less money and more gain then simply trying to make it a bigger cc motor. Quote

Bansh-eman Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 you can make a vrey nice motor for less then that 1500, but if you start trying to juice it too much your going to run out of money very fast! with the extra motor your going to need ALOT of stuff, crabs, intake, pipes, clutch, chain, swinger. There are plenty og things you can do without going to a 400 cc that will make that thing a TOTALLY differant bike Quote
dajogejr Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 Ok... Welcome to the site. Baby steps...ok? First, pipe and jet the bike. Ride it....see if it's enough, see if you want more. Read and search around...see what kind of pipes people recommend for your style and locale. Pipe the bike first. Then worry about making it even faster. Do not waste your time and money just making the motor bigger...it's a gradual, combined process. Get the cylinders ported next. After that...stop. You'll probably need a better clutch, better tires, and a gearing change to get that power to the ground. 20000 HP won't do any good if you can't get it to the ground. Pipes, better air filter system, jet it...go from there. Quote

okbeast Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 Porting the cylinders changes a ton of things, from the timing to the port specs, opens things up, etc. What kind of riding are you going to be doing? You have stock carbs that are bored? Quote

okbeast Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 Nothing really, unless you want to go to a stroker motor. If you do want to go to a 4mm you can send the jugs off and have them ported for the stroke. You will also need to get a coolhead and have domes cut for the extra stroke or have your stock head cut. Otherwise you could just send the cylinders off and have a low-mid port job done on them and you will notice quite a bit of difference. Quote

dajogejr Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 OK...head and cylinders are two different things. The cylinders will need to be sent out to be ported. The head is used to do a few things, mainly change compression via how the domes inside are cut. Quote

dajogejr Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 If they cylinders have to be bored to meet clearance tolerances, yes, you'll have to buy new pistons. Quote
