HammerShee99 Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 I got my engine torn down tonight, and upon getting the jugs off, I found out why my engine locked up. The right-hand rod bearing is a total goner. Problem is, as much play as there is in the rod, it seems that not only is the bearing gone, but the right-hand crank throw is also severely worn, because it's allowing for more play than would be there if only the bearing were gone. Can that possibly be fixed, or is that enough to turn the crank into landfill fodder? Quote
Bansh-eman Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 toss it out and get a new crank. If you dont plan on doing a stroker you can get a "used" oem for really cheap thats in good condition. Alot of guys will buy a new bike and open the motor to stroke it without even running the oem crank. Quote
KaosBanshee44 Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 Damn i just tore my 04' motor apart that was hardly ridden but got rid of my crank already to a buddy. That just goes to show ya how many barely used cranks our floating around out there. Best to just get a new one like Bansh-eman said. Quote
HammerShee99 Posted April 13, 2008 Author Report Posted April 13, 2008 I think I'm gonna stick with the stroker setup if the cases are okay. I've found kits on eBay that have a Hot Rods crank, Wiseco pistons, and all the bearings, gaskets, etc. to almost have my engine completely rebuilt for about $700 shipped. I'll still need to get my cylinders re-sleeved and ported, and will need new domes, though. If the cases are screwed, I'll have no choice but to just go back to stock. I need to have the quad back up and running by June 7 for the NOHVA Jamboree in Genoa, so if I can't get enough money put together to go back to the stroker setup, I might just go back to stock. If you're from Nebraska and/or are familiar with John Cherry's work at GassRX in Genoa, let me know what you think of it. I'll probably look to him for cylinder sleeving/porting. Quote
