2001Stroker Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 you guys think im gonna run hotter with braided stainless rad hoses? or cooler has the been proven?if i should be sticking with stockers. whats the best method to recondition them? i ALMOST dropped them in the trusty varsol bath tonight (too many joints later) before i remembered varsol loves to eat rubber. Diesel fuel has been good to me. Doesn't hurt the rubber, and it cleans just as good as varsol, and treats it pretty good too. WD-40 also works good. Just try to keep it out of the inside of the hoses. It's a pain in the ass to get the inside dried out. You don't want any petroleum products mixed in with your coolant. After cleaning them with one of those, spray some silicone spray all over them and let them sit. Wipe the excess off, after about 10 minutes. I also use silicone spray on the undersides of my fenders. Helps very good when you decide to wash the bike. Dirt falls right off with a water hose. Quote
njbanshee Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Get an in line temp gauge and do a test. Quote
tidos76 Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 i have braided rad lines. i never noticed a diff with my temp gun. i wouldn't rec it. they are hard to clean and one lil snag and they look like crap. they do look god at first though. i just used the slip on stuff that i had left over from my truck. inthemail Posted April 4, 2008 Author Report Posted April 4, 2008 nice. thanks alot guys i never even thought about diesel and silicone. where did you get the slip over stuff tidos? i was going to buy a couple lengths of braided rad hose. nascar grade haha. kaos gave me a pointer on acetone stripping my rad so naturally the hoses gotta bling too Quote
tidos76 Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 i got them at o'rielys. i think the kit was like $40 and it has about 4 diff sized covers Quote
KaosBanshee44 Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 You ever strip your radiator, have you tried it yet? Quote
2001Stroker Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 I just thought about this. My brake lines are stainless braided, but they have a clear rubber coating over them. Maybe you can find some radiator hoses like that. That would keep it from getting snagged. And if they get dirty, just wipe 'em off. I tried to Google it, but didn't look too hard. If you find some, post a link. Quote
NitroTate Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 (edited) I used to have those slip on braids too and I don't reccomend it either. Once they get dirty or snagged the look like hell. If you plan to spend $40. on those you would be much better off picking up some of the metal radiator hoses like I did for $50. They stay exactly where you bend them to, cool better, look sick, don't snag, and easy to clean. Maintenance free! AND you can PC them any color you want!! Edited April 4, 2008 by NitroTate Quote
Animalman294 Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Damn Nitro, thats a lot of blue ya got there...................... Quote
inthemail Posted April 4, 2008 Author Report Posted April 4, 2008 yeap tates bike is the bluest shee around haha -i never had the chance to get the rad stripped yet, but very soon it will be done its on my list as one of the next things to be done. metal rad hose eh? is that stuff like electrical conduit? where in the fuck does one get that? i did find some nice stainless braided rad hose. not slip on or anything, and it does happen to be lightly coated. i think ill most likely go with that stuff. the guys said they can form it to shape.
