Polishing Stock Front Shocks?

Just wondering if you can polish the front stock shocks? Have mine apart right now to get the springs powdercoated and wanted to clean up the shock body. Anybody know what material those are?

The guy who is doing my powdercoat got some small spring compressors from a motorcycle shop and the the top cap just spins of the rod.

any metal can be polihed. you just need to get a good buffing wheel ad some compound and have alot of patients

 

edit: oh and the better prep work you do the better the outcome of your final pproduct will be

I phrased my question incorrectly. I meant can they be polished without rusting/corrosion?

yeah you can polish them but they will rust. you can try clearcoating them but i don't know how well it will hold up.
