Guys,

I am putting in a hotrods 4 mil crank. I just put on my adjustable timing plate and my flywheel. My ? is do i need that woodruff key? It didnt want to fit that well when i was assembling it. I put the flywheel on and lined it up with the key and torqued it down it brok a small corner off of the key. Is this normal? What you guys think?

Thanks

Yes you need the key even though the crank is tapered. They do get damaged a bit but all you have to do is grind or file a little off to smooth it out and it will fit or get a new one. You dont want to over torque the crank nut that holds the flywheel either(like to try to force the flywheel over a bad key).If you dont use the key your flywheel will slip and throw the ignition timing off.

Are you talking about a standard key or an offset key?

With a timing plate you don't need an offset key, use your standard key.

Unless you need an assload of timing...
