ramboner69 Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 trying to debate if i purchased a 4mil long rod or a 5mil long rod seller from ebay was unsure just stated 5mm stroker any help would b great Quote
dajogejr Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 You are talking about two different things. One is the stroke of the crank, 4 mil...is very common. 5 mil is RARE...but, they've been made. Long rod vs. short rod. The stock rod (short rod) is 110mm center eye to center eye. The long rod is 115mm, center to center. Take a picture of the actual crank, including both sides of the rod(s)...we might be able to tell by looking at it. Quote

fastbanshee8 Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 i know its a long rod...im trying to fugre the actual size of the crank out If it's a long rod for sure, then chances are it's a +4mm stroke, +5mm longrod. Quote

Definitely don't assume that it's a 4mm crank. I've always measured by rotating the crank and measuring the piston travel in the cylinders. Quote

dajogejr Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 any advice on measuring the crank out of the bike? If you have another stocker, yes. measure the distance from the pin to the edge of the web, then do the same on the stroker. It should be 2mm offset towards the outside of the pin. Quote
odaen Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 any advice on measuring the crank out of the bike? Could probably use a set of calipers to measure the diameter of the web, then the center of the rod pin to the edge of the web and do some math from there. I dunno how accurate it would be due to measurement error, but you could try it. the 5mm crank would only have the pin .5 mm further out from center than the 4mm crank. That might be kinda hard to resolve this way. Quote
dajogejr Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 At this point, I'm kinda thinking I wouldn't have shelled out coin to a buyer unsure of what they were selling.... Quote
