inthemail Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 anyone got any ideas? i got the seal.... Quote
MILO Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 if i remember correctly i tried to pry it out from the top but you have to be carefull that you don't damage the crank case. you need to use something like rag, tool handle or something to pry against rather than the engine case. i also tried using a small hook. run it thru the ctr and hook the bearing and hammer up on the handle. that didn't work either. if i remember right, i ended up using a punch / chisel and knocking the bearing out in pieces. it worked but then you need to watch that you don't score the sidewalls where the bearing sits, and be very carefull and meticulous in cleaning up any debris that may be dropped into the opening. i used a magnet from the top of the opening and thru the rod / ball opening from the clutch side. by the way, it's 10x easier if you have the motor out of the frame. i think in the worse case scenario, you can split the cases and get at it that way. inthemail Posted February 25, 2008 Author Report Posted February 25, 2008 i have my cases split. this bearing is the last one to come out, i noticed it had caused a fair amount of wear marks on my worn out clutch arm so what the hell time for a new one. ill try hammering it out from the inside, i just wanted to make sure it didnt have the possibility of welding itself to the case. give me 20 minutes and its gone.... thanks man Quote
snowmanzz13 Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 oh what a pain in the ass lol i did it by just breaking it inside the tope end with a punch like stated above and had a strong magnet handy. I also had it in the frame making it hella harder but it can be done, just keep away from scoring the case Quote
inthemail Posted February 25, 2008 Author Report Posted February 25, 2008 will the new one have to be press set by any chance? or would a good mallet and piece of wood do the trick. Quote
MILO Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 for bearing installations i usually use a socket with the same outside diameter as the outer bearing race so the force of hammering it in is distributed equally and there's no stress on the bearings or inner race. something of that nature should do the trick. Fireroad Express Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 a slide hammer with a hook attachment on it might work. Quote
NitroTate Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 I had one hell of a time getting mine out. I tried everything but those things are REALLY pressed in and you can't get to it from the backside. There are two ways you can try; 1-The way I did it is I pried all the bearings etc. out so that all that was left was the sleeve, then I took a dremel with a cutting bit and VEEEEEEERRRRRRY carefully cut into the wall of the sleeve WITHOUT cutting into the wall of the case. I cut out in 2 places so I could remove about a half inch chunk of it and then I could squeeze it out. Those fuckers are sturdy!! 2- you could try putting your case half in either the oven at 300 for about 45 min, or you could put it in the freezer for about 4 hours at least and then that thing might pull out.
