recently broke a piston and filled the crank with chunks and filings... doesn't seem to have done any damage to crank, no scrapes or gouges. Should i split the case to make sure i got it entirely cleaned out or continue on with my rebuild? Also, the machine is new to me and i am looking for information on affortable upgrades. bike is stock, with dg pipes. I am boring .020. any info would be appreciated thanks. my elevation is 750 ft, no idea what jets i am running. I enjoy trail riding and open dirt/gravel roads. No dunes around here.

Definetly split the cases... Your motor is already apart, it would suck to find out that you didnt get everything when you get it running again. I would as suggest getting your jugs ported, you already have the out... So if your thinking about going with more power, that would be the best way. Get a trail port, you wont be dissappointed. I just got mine running after Kevin did them from Herr jusg racing... and he does an awesome job and has a quick turn around time.

so...

Split the cases, and get some porting. Youll be happy

i agree 100%...even if you try and get all the stuff out of your cases there is still gonna be some debree in there..then there goes a crank failure...do what bansheekid15 said and it would be the safest way and cheaper in the long run..but if your gonna port it drag port the crap out of them..not unless you are a duner..

Yep, split em. And make a mental note of how many grams of funk you take out of there. The biggest problem is how ever you clean it, you will push crap in the bearings without a case split. If you want to get a new crank, take the easy way.

Thanks a million guys, almost a stupid question, i will definately split the case. Would you replace any bearings while i have it apart, and what do you think about shaving the head, k&N filter, adjustable timing plate and fmf fatty pipes. I have a friend selling his pipes, that's the only reason i ask, the price is right, also what jets should i run?

Thanks

first off drag porting SUCKS for duning what are you talking about he likes to trail ride and ride some gravel roads....get a trail port! if you were to dune ride (i know you dont) get a dune/agressive port or a dune/play port
