jharader Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 Heres what i got, i just smoked my engine, lost a piston, it basically just tryed to melt to the cylinder wall, no gouges just alluminum deposits.... its allready at .020 over... im wanting to get more power out of my engine,it has the factory crank is worn out currently i have 30mm oko carbs, fmf fatty's, and some aftermarket reed cages and pedals. what im curious about is which route to take? do i rebore the cylinders, have it ported, polished, the head shaved. which im guessing this will run me in the 7 to 8 hundred range by the time its all said and done, or should i go with a cub setup? i only ride on the dunes, im not wanting to spend more then 2grand on the motor due to dropping 3200 into the suspension. im torn here, im in no way satisfied with what power it made before on the sand,tho it had many many hours on it but still, wasnt impressive, i weigh 220, 6'2 and just want a suitable duner. im hoping to pull 60hp for 2grand, is that a reasonable price range and what route do you fellows recomend? ive only rebuilt a stocker before... new to the stroker motors and all that shit. thanks. James Well I'm fairly new to this myself but they tell my motor will make 55-60hp when I'm done, and that's at a really high elevation. I'm gonna have the mdos in my sig, basically a bolt on / ported motor with stock bore and stroke. I'd imagine you could get upwards of 75-80hp out of a 4mil / cub cylinder setup and be close to what your price range is, if you already have all the other bolt on stuff, and carbs. A friend in town made 90+ with a 4mil, but it's a pretty extreme setup. Good luck Quote

James You can easily get 90 + HP out of a 4 mil cub, you're not doing it for 2 grand though.. You'd need bigger carbs, better pipes, clutch...tranny mods, etc. My advice... Send your cylinders out to be ported AND bored if needed, the builder can bore them to match a set of pistons. .020 is awesome, plenty life left. Do a search on builders, there's a ton, ranging in price, turn around time, etc. Figure anywhere from 250 to 700 for bore, porting, pistons, gaskets, etc.... Since you said 2G's...you can easily do a stock motor bored and ported for a 4 mil, get a 4 mil crank.... Just get a dune port, with your carbs and pipes, 70ish HP would be very attainable, but, you'll have to bump the compression and advance the timing a bit...too. You may need to run race gas, but...ask your builder. 60 HP for 2Gs is EASY.... What kind of suspension mods did you do...by the way? Quote
