tidos76 Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 ok this is probably a stupid question and i think i know the answer but i'm goin to ask anyways. Has anyone ever used a 28mm carb for alc? i have 28mm pwk's i know my motor is built to run on it i just don't have the cash for new bigger carbs. if it is possible how do i do it? Quote
dajogejr Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 Before I answer your question, let me ask one of my own. Do you ever plan on using these 28PWKs for gas again? If the answer is yes, you should know they can NOT be converted or used for gas once setup for alky.... Quote
tidos76 Posted February 5, 2008 Author Report Posted February 5, 2008 is this just on the 28's? cause i have a friend with 35'sand he goes back and forth. the has soldered main jets he puts in when he runs alcy. i would like to be able to run both if possible. Quote
shanYE west Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 You have to drill the dump tubes for alky. On the keihin carbs the dump tubes are not replaceable. So once you drill them.. thats what you got. If you switched it back to gas it would run super rich. Mikuni's on the other hand the dump tube is replaceable and if you wanted to go back to gas, all you would need is to buy a new dump tube. Quote
tidos76 Posted February 5, 2008 Author Report Posted February 5, 2008 so my 28's will be able to give enough fuel for alcy? if i do all the drilling? and where can i find out how to do this. i have the skill just need to know where to drill and all that jaz Quote

I keep reading this all over the place, but have to point out that all of the PWK series carbs have a removable inner body thats held in by two star screws that can be switched from carb to carb on the same series/size range carbs. I have a set of 38 PWK airstrykers that I regularly switch from gas to methanol throughout the year. Pop the bowl off and change out the inner body with a gas one and you are good to go. - Jared Quote

Maybe this is an AirStryker type deal? Tidos... The carbs are only one part of running alky on a bike. Do you have the compression raised, timing advanced...are two more. Will they move fuel? Sure, to get the most out of alky I'd go with a bigger carb personally.... Quote

tidos76 Posted February 5, 2008 Author Report Posted February 5, 2008 i know the motor can do it, i'm running about 170-180lbs and +5 on my timing. i have 18cc domes now and might move to 17's Quote
dajogejr Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 My advice is don't go any further than you are now. YOu start getting that high up in compression AND timing, the motor will fight itself at high RPMs...leave it as is.. Quote
