tidos76 Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 ok i have 2 kehin 28pwk's. motor is ported, stock stator, and advanced timing, running 110octane. for some reason my bike will start and idle. when i take off its all good but when i get in the gas i loose one cylinder. i've gone higher and lower with my main jets. but i haven't noticed any difference the odd thing is. if i turn the choke on the left side(side that cuts out) the bike runs better. not perfect but better. and suggestions? Yep....it's either electrical or you have an air leak. If you can, swap stator, CDI and coil with a known working bike. Otherwise...OHM the stator and coil. Also...make sure your air gap on the flywheel to pickup is .016 tp .020, test both contacts. If electrical all checks out, you need to do a leakdown test. Do a search, RN Brad has a nice write up on creating a leak down tester, or machwon makes/sells a very nice kit. Quote

I was just gonna say check the pickup coil gap. Edited January 31, 2008 by Fouledout421 Quote

tidos76 Posted January 31, 2008 Author Report Posted January 31, 2008 ok thanks guys' i'll test it today and let you know the results Quote
04titanse Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 my instinct tells me that its probably the coil that is missing as the rpms increase. that or if you carb slides are backwards it could do that. mine did the same thing and it was the slide. Quote

Homeboy... He has 28PWKs. If he can get those slides in backwards, he's a helluva magician or machinist!!! I had a motor that started and ran great in Neutral, put it under load....sucked balls. Ended up being a bad air leak on the base gasket. All the electrical checked out. Quote
tidos76 Posted February 4, 2008 Author Report Posted February 4, 2008 ok guys. the stator tested good. but i think my coil is shot. it tested good between the + and - terminals but i didn't get anything through the wire to - term. i pulled the cap off and noticed the whole wire inside was nothing but rust. so dumb me tries to take the wires out of the coil thinking oh i just replace these....... well i think it's time to buy a new coil. cause it don't look like i can just replace the wires........ Quote
dajogejr Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 Just replace the end caps....they are normally what goes bad 99% of the time. NGK caps are like 5 or 6 bucks each. Quote
tidos76 Posted February 4, 2008 Author Report Posted February 4, 2008 the problem now is i pulled the wire out of the coil. which is probably a good thing cause i saw that the whole wire was rused up all the way to the coil. in other words my wires are toast. and you replace the wires on a old coil? Quote
dajogejr Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 Never had to. Tell you what, I have two coils sitting at my house, NEITHER of them have plug caps on the ends. I honestly don't know if either of them work. I got them in a BOX of Parts with a lot of good stuff, but a lot of junk. You send my 5.00 I'll ship them both to you... Buy new end caps, try them both....if one works, great. Send back 20 bucks and the coil you didn't use. If neither work, ship them back....call it a day. Let me know.... Quote
tidos76 Posted February 4, 2008 Author Report Posted February 4, 2008 i'm going to check if my buddy has a spare. if he doesn't i'll pm u for info. i really appreciate it!!! Quote
