Jetting?

Are there any symptoms that your quad will show that can make a person know they need to jet it? I know NOTHING about jetting so any help is appreciated!! Also, I know this has probably been covered a billion times but could somebody please tell me what size jets I should be running in Alberta, Canada? I run an open airbox setup with K&N filter. No pipes or other mods.
