'04limited Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 how much timing is safe to run at sea level? i have 135 psi in each cylinder the mods to the bike are t6's ,k&n pods, adjustable timing plate, right now its set at +4 but i was just wondering how much higher i could go and still be safe i could run a higher octane fuel if i need to thats not a problem, any info will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance. Tom Try 6... But without some more porting and compression, you probably won't notice much difference seat of the pants... Quote
'04limited Posted October 31, 2007 Author Report Posted October 31, 2007 thanks for the reply daj at 6 do you think that i will need to run a higher octane fuel? i run 92 now. Quote
dajogejr Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 IMO....no, not with only 135PSI. If you closer to 150 or 160...then I'd think about it. I look at it this way in gas engines. Compression has more to do with the need for higher octane than timing, but timing is the icing on the cake. If you have a motor that is borderline race/pump fuel with compression, timing will usually put it over the edge. Quote

spike Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 on my stock stroke drag ported stocker's going from +4 to +8 made all the difference in the world. Ran all year with 19cc domes (155 psi) on 100 octane leaded. It gave me a LOT more grunt on the bottom. felt like it had quite a bit of torque under the powerband. just my 02 Quote

Tom i wouldnt go over 3+, its just too much timing for the motor some people will tell you 5+ but its useless the motor just doesnt have that kind of power. so ur better off just keeping it like that till u get some motor work. Maybe there was something wrong with your bike, but I varied from 4 to 8 on my stocker with bolt ons only, no porting....and it made a difference. 8 it got too hot after hotlapping it in the dunes, but 4 is more than safe all day long, and his bike might like 5 or 6.... Everyone and their brother runs 4.... Quote
'04limited Posted November 5, 2007 Author Report Posted November 5, 2007 i think im gonna bump it up to 6 and give it a try. thanks for all the replies guys. Quote
