orion39 Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 I have an '04 Banshee that I have been riding for three years and recently brought in to have its first top end rebuild done and some mx porting. The guy that owns the shop where I brought my Banshee said that he refuses to port the head b/c of how drastically it reduces reliability. Also, I told him that I wanted to use Wiseco pistons and he strongly argued against them saying that, again, they reduce reliability and he would recommend OEM yamaha pistons. He said that by having the head ported and the aftermarket pistons installed, the motor would only last three months. Is there any truth to what this guy is telling me? If I decide to have the head ported for mx, where is the best place to send it to have porting done right with a prompt turn around? Thanks in advance for any advice. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Actually, it's not the head you have ported, its the cylinders. I'd find yourself someone else to do your work, you don't lose any "reliability", it'll run for a long time IF you take good care of it. There was a thread in the product reviews section (I think) debating the pro's and con's of using different brands of pistons, I have always used wiseco pistons and had great luck with them. Most everyone I ride with/race with uses wiseco too. The best thing to do if you're looking for someone to do your portwork is make a list of builders. Call them all and see which one you feel the most comfortable with. There are several great builders that can do the job, some are swamped with work, some are not. Call them up, ask them prices, turn around time, and what they recommend for your setup, and whichever one you like the most, go with them  Quote
