pigdog Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 Hi guys, I currently have a 07 TRX450r with a few good mods, got around 50hp,but Im thinking about sell it two get a banshee. I have always wanted one only reason I never brought one is I dont know enought about them, I tail ride only, mostly open farm type trails but often really wet {rains lots in New zealand}.. What sort of hp does the shee have factory ??? with pipes and jets could I get 50+hp out of one ??? how do the like the trail seen ?? Thanks for any help you could give me. Quote
dajogejr Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 Keep what you have...it is a better trail machine, and the suspension is LIGHT years better than any banshee... The factory banshee gets about 35HP to the rear wheels, give or take. With pipes, air filter, jets, and a timing advance (all bolt ons without ever having to crack open the motor) and you're around 40 to 42HP or so. You're already at 40HP or so with that 450R, box stock. Throw a pipe, jet kit and air filter on that 450R, or....get an HRC kit, and you'll be way, way better off than with a banshee for what you want to do. You will not get 50 HP with bolt ons only on a shee. You might get 45ish...at best, and your torquier powerband ans suspension on that 07 450R is a 10 time better trail machine, period.... Now, if you want to buy a banshee in ADDITION to your 450R, hell go for it, it's a totally different bike, it's an absolute blast to ride....and we love them here. I just wouldn't get one to REPLACE the bike you currently have, you'll be severely disappointed. Quote
pigdog Posted October 12, 2007 Author Report Posted October 12, 2007 Thanks alot guys, think ill buy a second hand banshee for a wipping toy, Ill probably spend way to much on it doing mods, mind you thats half the fun...I have a athena big bore kit in my honda do athena do big bores for 2 strokes??? I sure ill learn whats needed quickly once i get my new toy. Quote
dajogejr Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 I don't think I'd be overstating thing if I said they make 100X the aftermarket parts for banshees as they do your 450. This motor/bike has been around 20 years and still going. The motor is virtually unchanged (minor things here and there) The chassis design changed...from it's inception in 87 to 90, it was a J Arm frame up front. From there...it's been A Arms. A banshee can be almost limitless in power, but the chassis/suspension need to be updated accordingly. For a few thousand, you can easily triple to quadruple the power output...but with anything else, you need to upgrade as a package. Better suspension, better clutch, etc... From bone stock to a very rideable and reliable 70HP or so....it very easy to do. As said...stock suspension is lacking... People do trail ride banshees..but I think it's safe to say the majority let them run free in dunes, wide open trails and the dragstrip, where all the power can be used...and used often. You can do everything from porting to the stock motor for a little pep to full on aftermarket cylinders, stroker cranks, etc. I couldn't tell you if Athena does anything for banshees or not....but plenty others do!!
