Flanagans twin Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 Hey guys! i talked to my builder today and i was thinking about getting a new HD clutch cuz he said when he built his banshee motor he thought his stock clutch was strong then he threw a stronger one in and it wasnt too radical so he said he suggests throwing one in..what do you guys think?? and could i put it in myself with basic tools? if i did a new clutch, 15 tooth front sprocket, 42 rear renthal and pair of 35 mill carbs, and cdi box to raise my rev limit some more would it make a big difference?? i would go with a clutch first cuz thats the cheapest, already throwing the sprockets on then a new cdi...thanks for any input guys!! joneser4u Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 a good clutchbasket is not cheap,the clutch disk arent that bad. If you have a built motor you really need to upgrade the clutch setup,when I say built that doesnt mean pipes,filter,reeds and rejet. im talkin ported strokers. Quote

MILO Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 they are not hard to install. a few key points or problem areas... 1) recommend soaking the fibers in your tranny oil several hours before installation 2) aligning them correctly in the basket. the steels are staggered in a particular location and pattern to provide balance and smooth operation. 3) do not overtighten the spring bolts, they will snap 4) proper clutch adjustment. a basket replacement can be a little more involved, but still relatively easy. get a clymer's manual, it will walk you through it all step by step, start to finish. :cool: Quote

Alignment of the steels and discs isnt important in Jeff's clutch kit. Thats only with the stockers. I let my clutch discs soak in oil overnight. Its simple to replace. You might think about installing a pancake bearing on your adjuster too. Get one from Jeff when you order your clutch kit. :beer: Quote

Clutch/pancake bearing install should take less than an hour usually. Get ahold of me if you have any ??s or need help. Quote

Thank you... I was waiting for someone to jump on that one... There are plenty of people out there running HUGE motors with stock ignition.... I have Jeff's clutch. Got it in 05 for my stock motor with bolt ons. Used it all last year with my 4 mil cub on gas. I'm using the same clutch this year with my 10 mil cub on alky.... If I ever wear it out...I'll be getting another one from Jeff... To be honest, unless you have a ported, fire breathing monster, get Jeff's clutch but put 3 HD and 3 stock springs in for a little easier pull, and get an EZ Pull lever while you're at it.... Quote
