How to repack Shearer silencers?

I have one pipe that is louder than the other, but I cannot get the silencer apart to repack. The stinger seems to be riveted on, not screwed on with allen bolts.

Drill out the rivets, get a 20 dollar rivet gun @ home depot, repack, rerivet.

While you're there, get a roll of pink house insulation...peel the paper, and use that to repack the silencers...

Thanks. That's what I kind of thought, but wanted to make sure before I tore something up.

I had to use a 2x4 on the end caps after I drilled the rivets out. Just hold the silencer in a vice by the mounting bracket, and set the piece of wood against the end cap and tap on the wood with a hammer. They are on there pretty tight. Good luck.

And Don't use aluminum rivots when you put it back together.
