never thought i would ask a question like this. Just put my buddys shee togather just basic rebuild pretty much stock. It has good spark but will not fire?

check the fuel. jets might be clogged. also whats your compression. and have you done a leakdown test? top end rebuild or full rebuild?

new crank and top end. dont know compression. has 20cc domes. dident do a leak down test.

I does not even want to try to fire.

If you got spark, I'd do a compression test. If you got good compression and spark its gotta be fuel. I would do a leak test also.. Let me know if you need a tester and I'll send mine over.

Ok I got it to fire.carbs are getting fuel but will only start if I put gas in the carbs. and only run for a min or 2 then shut off. cleaned all jets.

Put gas in the carbs as it spray? Does the bike run when you give it some throttle? Sounds to me your jets are not large enoguh, or i may be misunderstanding what you mean by "putting gas into the carbs."

spray some starting fluid or brake cleaner up through the carbs towards the pistons and then see if it will light off. Let us know what happens. Dont worry about a leak down test yet, you just need to know the 3 basics right now. Compression, Spark, fuel! If you spray carb clean up there and it doesn't light off, then you need to check compression. If the compression is ok then check to see if the flywheel is installed right, or if the flywheel key is sheared.

well I lost all spark now. but before that happed when I would go to hit the gas a little it rev way high and wouldent shut back down. the slides where not sticking becuase I could see that they werent

Well I was going to say, if you sprayed that motor with Ether like someone else mentioned, you can easily blow that motor apart!!! DO NOT put Ether in a two stroke! Not sure why you cannot get spark but I am really wondering if your flywheel key is in place? When you verify spark, you simply spray a bit of WD40 in the carb throats and if it does not even try to lite, you more than likely have a timing issue.

Your spark loss may just be the TORS system hanging up or a wire you pulled off the coil while messing with it. Good luck

Who said to spray ether in it?

Check the flywheel pickup gap.

What is the main component in starting fluid? The ones you buy at any part store all use Diethyl Ether. The use of Ether in a higher compression spark ignition engine can have devastating effects. It can cause engine run away by means of auto ignition and one of our guys learned this the hard way. I also saw it at the dunes. No thanks

Well starting fluid has ether and an upper end lubricant in it, and should always be used as directed on the can (Small amounts). It is also not a good idea to use on a hot engine as it works like diesel fuel and is hard to shut off. I have no problems with it. Its way safer than sluffing gas in there, I got burned really bad doing that one.

I had the same exact problem..... make sure your choke tube is in place and get rid of the tors. I got rid of the tors and it started in one kick and ran like a champ.... before it wouldnt run for shit and it would rev to the moon withought giving it gas
