dirt-riceburner Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 I'm happy to say that I got 107HP and 57lbs of torque at the dyno the other day on my newly built 4mil cub. However, I ran into some problems on the first of riding today. First of all, when racing or at high rpm, I had a hard time shifting up; almost impossible unless I let up on the rpm. My other problem is at the end of the day on the last race up the hill, the rpm was reving but the bike started to slow down and suddenly wouldn't go anywhere. DId I burn out my clutch? I thought the clutch went out slowly. I do have brand new Hinson cluch setup and a new lockout. The fibers and the discs are used but were still in good shape. I should also mention that when the engine is running, the lockout is not spinning. What you guys think the problems are? Quote

LOL Just pull your clutch cover and tear down the clutch & see whats out of whack. Quote
dajogejr Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 I should also mention that when the engine is running, the lockout is not spinning. What you guys think the problems are? That's impossible...either it wouldn't go anywhere, or the thing would be bouncing around in there and you'd have a catostropic failure in 4 seconds tops. Do you have an override tranny? If not, no use even discussing this further. Is that bike on gas or alky? Good numbers.... My 4 mil cub on gas didn't shift for shit @ WOT...period. The only mistake I made on that bike was not putting a lockup and override on it, so I could see how fast it really was....not just in each gear separately.... Quote
bansheefreak Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 sounds like your adjuster nut came lose.. seen it happen at the dunes..{wesw clutch issue} it came lose and the clutch wasnt spinning took back to camp and found the nut in bottom of the clutch side of case.. this was a hinson basket and lockup too which makes the adjuster bolt very short and not long enough.. i think even travis(bigboy }had this problem too.. Right, the bike was not going anywhere and the motor was running and the lockout was not spinning. I don't have an override. How would having one help with my prob? I run straight race gas. sounds like your adjuster nut came lose.. seen it happen at the dunes..{wesw clutch issue} it came lose and the clutch wasnt spinning took back to camp and found the nut in bottom of the clutch side of case.. this was a hinson basket and lockup too which makes the adjuster bolt very short and not long enough.. i think even travis(bigboy }had this problem too.. Is the adjuster nut the one in the center of the lockout? If it is, it's still on there. It looks tight but I'll check when I tear into it today. Quote

As said...make sure you check the center nut, didn't even think about that... Quote
J-Madd Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 As mentioned, the center nut probably came loose. BTW I have exactly the same motor/pipes/carbs(I think..or maybe 39mm)/domes, etc. as you, but I don't have any shifting problems. I have a F.A.S.T cluth w/easy pull lever and mod quad lockout. I doubt I have 107 hp either, though....and my timing is only at +5. Good to know that the potential is there for those hp numbers. What jets/temp/elevation are you running? Quote
