davidb Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 I recently bought a banshee and I love it and am learning more and more about it every day. Unfortunately the person i bought the banshee off did not exactly explain everything that had been done but over the first few weeks of owning it i have figured alot out and it is working well. I allready have pipes and and cool head and all that stuff but the timing is what i am wondering about. I know for a fact (because i checked) that the wodruff key is stock (not a degree key) and the stator plate is stock.....so i was thinking about going +4 on my timing through a key or plate but then i got to thinking that the CDI is not stock, it is definately aftermarket and says GYTR on it (even though i dont think GYTR made an aftermaket CDI for banshee) so i was wondering if anyone knew if the aftermaket CDI would have allready advanced the timing because if it had than i would not do another +4 oblivously. anyone know if aftermarket CDIs can advance timing? Second question....i know it has domes in the cool head and allthough i dont know how big they are i know the compression is quiet high....so my question is ...the other day i admit that i put some crappy gas in it (like 85 octane) and it ran funny. it sounded like crap on the hillclimbs when it was under heavy load and reved real high at idle. i thought it sounded like detonation .....and when i went to start it after running it hard for a while (it was hot) it ran on its own with the key off for like 2 seconds every time i kicked it.....doesnt this mean that the gas is exploding in the cylinders due to heat and compression alone since oblivously it wasnt getting spark since the key was off....at least thats what i thought ...im gonna try some higher octane gas and see if that helps/fixes......thanks for the help Quote
banmeister Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Try the higher octain fuel, also check for anything causing a lean condition, low fuel, pet cock pluged / not open, poor flow to the carbs, low float levels ect. Do not ride it too long that way or you might be buying new pistons soon. Quote
dynodon Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 I dont know about the gytr cdi box, BUT a dyna will advance your timing, I think its like +3. So the possibility is there for it to be advanced. I wouldnt run that low of an octane fuel at all. get some good gas for it. Quote
Snopczynski Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 The gytr box is a advanced curve ignition, how much exactly I dont know. I would try to contact gytr about it. We need to know your compression to tell you if you need to run 50/50 or full race gas. Quote
