I noticed that my clutch basket gear was moving back and forth about 1/4 inch.

 

Would that affect the timing? If so, would it retard it or advance it?

It wouldn't affect timing but you do need new clutch cushions.

make sure to locktite the crap out of the bolts when ya change the cushions, had one of mine back out and wreck the crank seal!

Are you running a stock basket? I would buy an after market one if you are.

 

and the only thing that affects timing is the timing plate and the cdi box.
