I was out at winchester last weekend. I was in the middle of a tree shoot going up in 3rd gear and needed to down shift into 2nd, so I did or tried but it clicked like it went into gear but it didnt. So I thought maybe i didnt hit it hard enough or get in gear right, so i backed down and tried again. Same thing happened but this time in went into neutral. But it seems like it wants to but doesnt quite go in. So pretty much i thinking that something is going wrong in the tranny or my shift star. I want to know if anyone has had this problem.

I had a similar problem years ago, but the seal behind the counter-shaft sprocket was bad, and some dirt, and debris got in the tranny, and bound things up. Nothing got tore up, but everything had to be cleaned up, and washed out.

Usually chipped gears or bent shift forks cause that.

It depends, because bent shift forks was the diagnosis that I got on mine, before tear down. He won't know for sure, until it gets tore down. I was just giving him an idea, of what could be wrong, and I wasn't saying that my idea was the correct one.

Unfortunately it usually never is simple with transmission problems. Pull the cover off first, if you dont see anything wrong split the cases.

we had a problem kind of similar to that on one of our bikes a couple years ago and it turned out to be the c shaped armature on the end of the shift shaft had busted in two. i would drain the oil and pull the clutch cover and inspect that first then start working your way down the money spiral. hope it's that easy for you...

We had that happen back in the 90's, had to weld that little bastard back together out at the dunes.
