Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 So I was out this past weekend just having a good time. I am going down this road (mixed traffic all legal) following a 07 YFZ450 when I said screw this and I down shifted and held it wide open. I fly by the 450 almost to the top of 5th gear. I was hauling ass! When all the sudden my back end starts sliding back and forth like I am in a panic stop. When I realized that my back tires weren't moving. So I pull the clutch and coast off to the side and figured I toasted my engine. I flip the kick starter out and stand on it and it didn't budge... Now I though I definitely blew it up. So as I sit off the side of the road waiting for my brother to return with the truck I have my helmet off and a bottle of water siting on the seat in front of me. I told myself "what the hell" I tried to kick it again. to my surprise it turned over... So I kicked it over a few more times and it started up. so I ended up taking off. I made it back to camp just before my brother got the trailer unhooked. I pulled the plugs and they looked fine. I looked down the spark plug holes and I could still read the numbers on the pistons. No sign of detonation. I am stumped on why it locked up... So to be safe I jetted the carbs up to 400 to keep it cooler and had no problems after that. I know that the 400 are too big because it boggs some but has good topend. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Sorry for the Novel Thanks Jeremy Quote

There is a reason it lock whether it be the trans or engine. You need to find the reason for it. You will want to do some comp testing to see if it still pumps up like new. Take the pipes off and look up it's ass. If things look good there, you may have just chunked something and it locked two gears together. I just had one in that locked the chain. It was in for a clutch repair but I caught the symptom of a trans problem and he (intelligently) allowed me to go through the trans. Two cracked gears with about 5min ride time left on them. One ride would have cost him a bunch more. You need to find the reason for the problem. Take it apart if you have too. DO NOT rule out the bearing carrier in the rear either. Brandon Quote
Snopczynski Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 Theres a good chance you heat seized it, once it cooled off the pistons shrank and it freed up. Quote
