baddsheee Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 (edited) Got some 34 pj's on the way. I don't know where to start on jets. I got to learn jetting on stockers pretty good, but not a thing about PJ's. I'm doing homework and looking to find someone with a similiar setup but no luck yet. PJ's will also have K&N pods. Mods are in sig and I was running 330-mains, needle was on last clip (closest to blunt end), 32.5 pilot. Thanks Edited May 10, 2007 by baddsheee Quote

Thanks thats a huge pilot on stock carbs. probably why you had to lean it out so much with the needle. i would say 50-55 pilot, cel, cek needle 4th-5th clip, 150 mains and work down i was at 145 mains with my setup. but that was a 4mm jims motor. you need to find out what needles you have in those carbs. baddsheee Posted May 10, 2007 Author Report Posted May 10, 2007 (edited) Thanks wesw, How can I determine what kind of needles they are? Are they marked? What is the increment amount for mains and pilots on these carbs? Example, stockers are 2.5 pilot, 10 for mains. Edited May 10, 2007 by baddsheee Quote
wesw Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 the needles have letter on the top of them blunt end. pilots go in size of 2-5 ish 45, 48,50, 52, 55, 58, 60 mains are 145, 148, 150, 152, 155, 158 stuff like that. if they are new pj the needles are ceg and i had a bitch of a time jettint with them. cel, cek, dek, del were lot easier to jetting imo. sudco.com has charts and that where to order new stuff from. KEVSWS6 Posted May 12, 2007 Report Posted May 12, 2007 I used 52 pilots, 158 mains and CEJ needles in my 4 mil dune setups. CEL and CEK are good needles also. Just error on the fat side first. Quote

baddsheee Posted May 15, 2007 Author Report Posted May 15, 2007 (edited) I got the carbs with CEL needles. I cleaned them out and set the needles at the 4th clip. 52 pilots, 148 mains, 1.5 turns out. I will be installing them tomorrow and doing a plug chop. What do you guys think about running the PJ's with stock intakes? Trying to save some cash. I see how the idle adjust is very diff from the stock carbs. What is a good starting point for the idle (turns out)? Edited May 15, 2007 by baddsheee Quote

Just boil them in water and with a hot mitt on your hand grab the intake boot and slide the carb in. Quote
wesw Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 get an intake your stockers will crack and then you lean the motor out adn blow it up you will wish you spent some money for some nice intakes. boss intakes are nice pieces. Quote
baddsheee Posted May 16, 2007 Author Report Posted May 16, 2007 Hey WESV & KEVSWS6, thanks for the help guys:biggrin: . Any suggestions where to find some cheap intakes? I ran them today and noticed the clutch arm is hitting the bottom bowl of the carb. I see it has been welded so wondering if hitting cuz of the stock intakes. It was pretty hard to get them in so I see where they will crack, especially taking them in & out to jet. I can't get it to idle, set the needles (CEL) at the 4th clip from point end. 52 pilots, 148 mains. I can start it cold without the chokes, so I know I'm rich on pilots. How many sizes down do you guys suggest for the pilot. My mids were kind of sputtery, I think cuz of my pilot being so rich. The mid to high felt very strong, didn't do a plug chop cuz I want to get my pilot and needle set correct first. When I adjusted the idle I didn't notice a difference, How many turns out can I go on them. Is turning them out raise the idle or lower it? Quote
Bansh-eman Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 (edited) call jeff, he has some fairly cheap billet intakes that dont have a cross over to fit those carbs, with my pj's i had to go like 5 turns for it to idle... just barley crack the throttle just enough to keep the motor running, start turning the chooke once it starts to pickup start backing off one clikc at a time... you got to wait a few secs for it to level off.. it isnt instant. as for changing your pilot go one size at a time... they make pretty big changes for each size... KEVSWS6 Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 You can also try the UPP intakes. They are cheap and made of a poly like rubber. They look just like the stockers. Quote
