Ozzy87 Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Hey guys, I have a set of fatties with power core 2 silencers which are gutted. Is this hurting me power wise? If I repack my silencers am i going to gain a few ponies? Thanks Quote
badshee Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 dude i was wondering the same thing because i jsut gutted my cpi's to repack them and i really dont know if packing helps power or what.. maybe someone will let us know... Quote
dajogejr Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 You may gain or lose a pony by repacking the silencer, what you will do is your part to keep your bike quieter in an area you need silencers for...and help those of us that have to have silencers (and gulp...spark arrestors) a better name. You won't notice the difference, guaranteed...unless being louder makes you feel faster... Quote
Ozzy87 Posted May 7, 2007 Author Report Posted May 7, 2007 thanks for the input, I wasnt sure if having a big open chamber like that would somehow hamper or affect the flow of the exhaust Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 I like louder  I was thinking of removing the packing for my next dune run! Quote
FASTOYS Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 You WILL gain hp/Tq with packing and core installed correctly on inframes as they need that little bit of back pressure the way they are designed!! You WILL also make everyone else happier around you w/less noise. Everytime i have ever repacked one w/no packing i can FEEL the difference in torque. Quote

Ozzy87 Posted May 8, 2007 Author Report Posted May 8, 2007 Ok we have one that says no difference and another guy that says yes, big difference. Does any body else out there have any expirence with this? at first i though it would give me another pony or 2 because of more free flowing exhaust. but then the topic of back pressure comes up and im not so sure anymore. doesn't the amount of back pressure correspond directly with the actual pipe? I dont think your going to feel any difference. Back preasure plays a big role in 2 strokes,. but m pretty sure that the pipe itself is designed to take care of that. I dont think silencers do very much, other than silence and tone, even though the makers might claim otherwise. Quote
FASTOYS Posted May 8, 2007 Report Posted May 8, 2007 Ozzy, you can do as you wish with the advise but im telling you it runs alittle better with packing. Call any pipe manufacturer and see what they say. We have done it over and over and everytime I feel more torque. Just my .02 Quote
Ozzy87 Posted May 9, 2007 Author Report Posted May 9, 2007 thanks guys, I think ill try repacking them and see what kind of difference it makes, then I could put it which ever way gives me more power or I like better. Quote
grounded Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 I read that once the packing breaks down, the exhaust chamber in the muffler starts to create turbulence instead of a straight through flow, which may effect some bottom end torque. Quote
