ok guys ive searched on the forums and cant come up with anything so i figured i would pick you brains. i have been building a banshee from basicly scratch and have come to realize i cant find the vin numbers, on the frame that is. my dumb ass went to polishing everything on the motor and have took every number off it, like the ones on the cyls that say the cc's and any other number, and the one on the case, i was going for this smooth polished look and got a little carried away then realized that with no numbers its not really any year quad. it looks sweet all clean like that without all those gaudy numbers but i think i might have messed up. i bought a frame from a guy and i cant find the numbers on it, but i dont have a clue where there at to begin with. sorry about a dumb question but i kinda need some help. i just got this to build and sell it and i dont want to screw the next guy because of my neglence.

thanks again for all your help on this site

It might depend on your state. If you built it from scratch and have all the receipts for the materials and parts then you might be okay. Build pictures help tons as well. For California you have to take the bike to the DMV and get it inspected. Then they give you a form that you have to take to the highway patrol along with the bike, your pictures, and receipts. They'll xray it n' stuff and then issue you a VIN number and rivet the tag on. Then its back to the DMV to turn in the paper work. Dunno about an engine number though, you may have f'd up there.

It definitely dpends on your state. California would require an inspection at a state patrol facility and a metric ton of paperwork. Washington would require a state patrol inspection, but you only ever had to fill out one form (this is the same process for all non-commercial vehicles). I will be spending alot of time at the Oregon DMV this week, so I am sure I can figure out how it works there as well.

VIN is on the lower frame rail on the left side, just forward of the left footpeg. You can try to sell it without a title, but generally you'll get a lot less money. Most people don't want the headache of having to do all that work to register a new toy, so unless its a helluva deal...
