Ok, long story short i bought an 04 banshee with pro circuit exhaust, K&N's on the carbs. From a dead stop it will die on me if i don't have it very high on the rpms, after that it runs great. I did a compression test and have 120psi at both cylinders. Right side smokes a lot less then the left until revved up for about 10 seconds (before) I was told it could be pilots clogged. Pulled carbs, pulled main jets and put in new ones (same - 280) and cleaned out the pilots. I did not have a screwdriver to pull the pilots out. Attempted to remove the needle and couldn't do it ( don't know how). Bolted it all back up with new plugs and kicked and kicked and kicked..... no fire. Tapped carbs and it fired right up. Left side is smoking bad and right side barely puffs when revved. I did the carb sync - no change. I'm wondering if i need to just get on it and run it up the street to clear it out but i don't want to hurt anything. I have TORS still hooked up, i am undecided on it. I am brand new to banshees, my kx450 is my pride and joy and this is for the times when i wanna just go all out and piss people off with the obnoxiousness. i have a big group getting together on the 23rd of march and i'm hoping this bad boy is running superb. I bought some new replacement pod filters along with outerwears and a jetting kit so i'm ready to do whatever it takes. The new pod filters are replacing the old pod filters, i have not changed anything on this shee.

Thansk for any help you guys can offer. I bought this shee at sea level and it will be ridden at 4500 ft.

Also, according to K&N's specs i need to be at #4 on the needle, 280 mains and 2.5 turns out (my current settings)

I found on another website i should be at stock position with the needle, 340 mains, 30 pilots, and 1.5 turns out......

so confusing!!!

My best guess is 27.5 pilots, and 290 to 320 mains.

Air screw can vary from 1.0 to 2.5 turns out...

Get a clymers....removing the needle really isn't that tough, you need to be able to check that.

Also...make sure the slides are in the right carb (the cutout at the bottom should face the rear) Make sure the bowls are on the correct carb, and make sure the choke tube is connected from the left to right carb.

forgot to mention the plugs both looked very rich when pulled for the compression test. Slides are correct (to my knowledge) and they both move freely. I removed the carbs one at a time so the bowls are on the carbs they came from. Choke tube is connected, i double checked.

Now this may be a stupid question but i have to ask it anyway... if one cylinder isn't firing whats the best way to know? Does it give off a funky sound? Honestly it has the very fast ping that 2 strokes make and it revs up pretty good. It's just the smoke on the left side compared to the right that has me wondering. i really wanna just run it up the street and see if it needs to be cleared out but i'm worried that it may blow....

what do you me the "cut out should be towards the airbox". i was rejetting my shee today and i noticed theres really only one way for the slide to go in to the carbs because of a key in the bore.

Is there a pic somewhere so i can see if mine is correct?

The slide can only go in one way, but...either slide can go in either carb. One is correct, the other isn't.

If your bike runs/starts/idles fine, they're in correctly.

If you look at the bottom of the slides, one side has a small, half-moon shaped cut a way. The other side is flat.

Flat side goes towards the motor, cutaway goes towards the air box...

slides are good and correct, i checked again and rechecked sync. I'm going to run it tomorrow and see what happens.

Ok heres an update. Came home from work and noticed the choke hose was disconnected. Put it on correctly and i barely kicked it over and it fired up, honestly one sissy kick and it was on. I about shit myself. Both cylinders very even and revved very nice. My chick even came out and said it sounded way better. Unfortunately i could not ride it so i don't know if the low end bog is fixed.....

Heres what i think happened.....

Pulled carbs off 1 by one, put back on correctly but out of sync..... finally fired up and after i had taken the carbs off numerous times i left the choke tube off the last time which is why 1 cylinder was smoking and the other wasn't.... i guess. Thing fires up way better then before so i am "assuming" i had crap built up in the pilots. Based on my readings that would make this hard to start AND a low end bog. So thanks go out to all of you for kicking advice my way. I actually learned a lot about my new shee because of your replies. Thank You.
