hollisatp Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 I advanced my timing by 4 degrees but now the engine starts, idles ok but when I hit the gas it boggs out totally. The plug is wet when removed also.. Have I advanced the timing too much? Is there some step that I missed?? All I did was slide the plate to +4 then reattatch everything...... Quote
dajogejr Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 Are you sure you advanced it 4, and not retard it 4? Flywheel/key lined up and tightened properly? Air gap checked? Quote
hollisatp Posted March 3, 2007 Author Report Posted March 3, 2007 clockwise or counter? I rotated it clockwise and used the casing joint as my TDC point.. is that right? Quote
hollisatp Posted March 3, 2007 Author Report Posted March 3, 2007 So I readjusted the pickup, its close and looks good, lights strong. I readjusted the timing and even wehnt down on jets but it is still bogging down. Idles finebut nothing else... any help?? Quote
moneybags Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 Try ajusting your air screws. Move them BOTH a 1/2 turn in. Let it run for 30 or so seckends then see what happens. If that dont help maby back the air screws out 1/2 a turn. Just make sure that you give it time to take effect. Quote

If it's bogging, I'd turn the air screws OUT....to lean out the bottom off idle response. You adjusted it correctly, using the case split as the marker, moving it clockwise is correct...just wanted to be sure. Just for giggle, set it back to 0, see if it's better. Something else is wrong, a simple 4 degree timing advance should not require a jetting change if you were spot on before...and it should give MORE low end, not make it bog.. Quote

Make sure your carbs are in sync, are you checking throttle response after the motor is warmed up or cold? Quote
