i have an 88 shee and it has alot of play in the shifter{ like the spring is messed up}. i live in myrtle beach, s.c. and the weather just got where its 70 degrees everyday so i broke my quad out for some fun before i have to fix the shift problem. well the last trime i was out it started making a loud high pitched screeching noise when it was in gear. when i put it in neutral {which is very hard to find} it went away. also now when i put it in gear, it sort of jerks like the clutch isnt engaging properly. can someone please shed some light on this for me? also can you tell me what i need to get this shifter fixed?...............................thank you...............tattoo man :shoothead: :banghead:

The jumping forward when you drop it into gear is normal but can be worsend by worn out (grooved) clutch components. As far as the screeching goes I don't have a clue. I would go threw and replace the basket, hub, pressure plate, the clutch if need be, and buy the easy spring shift shaft mod from Jeff. That should eleminate any clutch problems granted everything is assembled properly and the right oil is used.

Clymers shows how to adjust the movement of the shifter, i.e. how far to push down to downshift and how far to pull up to up shift. They may help with some of your problems
