I just wanted a few opinions on a starting point for my 7mil cub. I'll be doing all of my riding at glamis (Sea level with temps in the 70s). My mods are as follows: 443 cub drag ported, Shearer small bore inframe pipes, 39mm PWK, VF3 reeds, running vp c12 w/amsoil 50:1. thanks for the help.

My first opinion is get rid of that amsoil junk....

Sorry...had to get that out of the way.

I'd say 160 mains, CEL needle middle clip and 50 pilots. That's probably a bit rich, but....it should be pretty safe.

Also....if you plan on running LONG drags and/or extended WOT...a few other guys here have been running their float bowls dry. Running out of fuel on a two stroke is like shutting off the oil pump on your car.

So...be careful...

I do a 50/50 mix of Drag/Dune. Nothing too long and i do already have the dual Pingel petcock so hopefully lack of fuel won't be an issue.

I'm running a 50 pilot and a CEL needle. I have had suggestions from 2 builders on this site. one said 165 should be on and the other said 180. i just wanted to get a few more opinions on a start so I'm not spending all day on Sat changing jets.

I have nothing to add about the jetting, but the Pingel won't necessarily stop you from running the bowls dry if you hold it WFO very long, or even intermittently down a long road.

On my 4 mil cub, I ran 48 pilots, CEL needle mid clip, 150 mains and it ripped.

Straight race gas....

Just a clean up port, near sea level....110 octane race gas.

I think 185 main would be WAY fat....

i say yes 160,or 165 main, and work your way down, and also if youre serious about dunning youill need a dunner bike.

I just got back from glamis and I am still having issues. With a 50 pilot CEL needle and 165 main the plugs looked good but after about 10 min of riding the bike would overheat. I richened up the pilot all the way up to 60 with a DGH needle and 180 main (according to Jeff at FAST) and the plugs were rich but the overheating continued. I have an oversized radiator, billet impellar, running engine ice etc. The bike wasnt just running hot it continued to climb in temp. I lowered the timing checked everything i could think of and the problem percisted. I cant wait to get this thing running properly the power these cubs put out is unbelieveable.

The problem is not your jetting.

Did you check your squish? Is your radiator cap still good? How do you know it's running hot? Is it pissing coolant out the over flow?

Are you sure it's sealed up right?

With all those mods, it should cool plenty. I had the same motor, just the billet impeller and I ran straight water, no issues at all.

You did plug the bottom of the cub cylinder water jackets, right?

I wonder if you leaking coolant somewhere internally....

Radiator is brand new ProDesign. Coolant was spuing out of the overflow. I have the ESR temp guage and it would continue to climb well above 200.

Motor was built by Patriot Racing I just dropped it in and hooked everything up. I have clear hoses and fluid appears to be flowing. I'm thinking it must be internal I just don't know where to start.

I don't know, but i would assume a professional builder would know to do so.

Patriot builds good stuff, period.

But...anyone can make a mistake....not saying they did, not saying they didn't.

I'd call them up and see what they say...are they local, or do you have to ship it?

Did it always overheat, or just start?

With all your mods, even if the jetting wasn't dead on, you weren't far enough off to overheat like you're saying you are.

I'd NICELY throw the ball into Patriot's court, see what they say and how they're willing to help you.

This was my first trip out with the new motor. Dan had set up my 35mm carbs with 50 pilots, CEL Needles and 160 mains this was with my cpi pipes. After some fitting issues with the stingers i decided to go with the shearers and 39mm pwks. I went with Dan and Patriot eventhough he is in Washington and am in SoCal because of their reputation and customer service. I was tired of the treatment from Trinity. I'll give Dan a call and see what he says. I really don't want to ship my motor back and end riding season early.

JKJK's shee started to overheat a couple of weeks ago when we were in Glamis....First time his shee overheated...Next day, he melted a hole in the piston to find the o-rings in the head was leaking by. The compression was getting into the antifreeze and heating the antifreeze up....at the same time some antifreeze got onto the piston and "well" .....it wasn't good. I heard from a builder that he just started realizing the o-ring problems in aftermarket heads. Of course, this is his anology, but it made sense...He was explaining it to John and I the day before John's shee blew....nothing like a slap in the face....

As for jetting the cub....JKJK's brother was running a 48 or 50 pilot, CEL, 162-165 mains....He thought it would pull better if he went leaner, but wouldn't dare. (After his brother blew up) He has a 4 mil, cub cylinders from Dan at Patriot w/ CPI pipes and also ran them w/ PT mids..

45 pilot, 39s come with dgh needles so 3rd or 4th clip, 155-160 mains.

158 probably be almost perfect.
