Ever since I got the bike I have to wind the piss out of the motor to go anywhere. I cannot let the clutch out at low revs because it will fall on its face. If you do get the bike to move from a stand still in 1st gear, it won't go anywhere until it hits the powerband/or is almost to the top of the rev limit (I have the throttle buried the whole time). To go anywhere, you have to rev the pee out of it and pretty much dump the clutch and take off, but you quickly run out of revs and have to shift. I know this is a two stroke with a pretty mean powerband but this doesn't seem normal. Can this be a Reed Valve issue? Is this common to anyone else? The bike is a '99 Banshee stock. Brand new clutch, jet needle clip set to 3 (factory setting), stock jets, stock spark plugs. Thanks.

argh, sounds like it's time to do a compression check. Are both cylinders hitting?

yep,. do a comp test. at low rpms the cylinders have more time to leak over higher rpms.

Yeah, both cylinders work fine. It sounds healthy, and fires up just fine. The bike only has about 150 hours on it.

only 150 hours? shit alot of people would be on their 2nd or third rebuild by the time it hit 150 hours.

check the compression first, thats easiest.

next i would pull the reeds and check those.

finally if the compression and reeds looked good, id buy a leakdown tester and test the bottom end for a crank seal leak.
