I got my firewire card on ebay for somethin' like 10 bucks shipped and it has 4 ports. It didnt come with a cable tho, so I head up to the local Wal-mart and holy crap they wanted $25 bucks for a firewire cable. Ebay is the only way to go if your a cheap-ass like me  Oh and on my 'puter, my firewire connection is WAY faster than my USB 2.0 connection.

I think there are two firewires (and two USBs). The earlier one is tons faster than the earlier USB and only a little slower than the new USB. The newer firewire is almost twice as fast as the new USB. The new one is called 1394B or Firewire 800.

I think Firewire cards are more easily recognized by Windows. You almost never need drivers. SOME USB you need drivers, but not all.

I am not sure if Firewire provides a nominal energy source like USB. I have never seen all the ridiculous toys for Firewire that exist for USB like fans, lights and compatible devices without their own power source. For a long time it seemed easy to conclude USB was an expensive alternative to a DC power jack! Don't believe me? Why does XP SP2 include an option to limit USB ports to 500mA?

Firewire is kind of like the Beta video tape. Superior in several ways, but less often used because ???

well I got all the stuff off ebay for $16. I hooked it up to my computer but the damn camera only has usb hook ups. Since I had never seen a firewire cable before I thought it was a usb type plug in. I guess I need to order a firewirecard that has usb ports. I was all excited and now I am a little mad because I have to wait a few more days :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :shoothead:
