01shee Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Hey guys, I have a 2000 banshee, just got it. So here we go, when i got it, it didnt have spark to the plugs the guy replaced every ignition component on it with after market peices. I messed with it for two days and finally got a wild hair and decided to plug the stock cdi box back into it. Now we have fire...... My problem is it will not start unless you manualy choke one of the carbs by covering the intake side with my hand. Once its running it runs like crap, it doesnt take gas well and it wont idel, when i rev it up it sort of clears out but, if i snap the trottle a couple times hard it revs hard but it takes a few seconds to decelerate, it also smokes like a freight train. The bike has just been rebuilt and carbs are clean as a pin inside. Now for a list of things you two-stroke gooroos need to know. its been bored .10 over weisco crank stock carbs 280 main-25 mid with throttle screw 2 turns out needles are on the 4th notch down dual k&ns on carbs no air box stock head pipes with fmf silencers ricky stator adjustable stator stock cdi new coil 32.1 ratio mix any help would be greatly appreciated Quote
bansheeseat$$ Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Here's a few sugestions t check. 1.choke tube in place? 2.slides in the correct carb? 3.float bowls on the correct carb? 4.check for air leaks. Quote
01shee Posted January 8, 2007 Author Report Posted January 8, 2007 Here's a few sugestions t check.1.choke tube in place? 2.slides in the correct carb? 3.float bowls on the correct carb? 4.check for air leaks. I appreciate that. I have an update I double checked the needle settings in both carbs and they were on the 5th notch from the top, I moved them too the 4th notch and cranked it. It ran alot better but still like too hover in mid range rpms then idels down to nothing. :: It actually ran good enough to take it a spin around the yard for the first time, It is alot faster than my z400 and old lt250r. It has pretty good throttle response through mid to high rpm but not low. How would i go about checking for leaks. oh and it still smokes very bad Quote
dajogejr Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 I think it's time to do a compression and leak down test before you troubleshoot jetting any further. Do a search on leakdown test...a thread here shows you how to make a kit, or...PM Machwon on here, and he sells a very inexpensive kit to use as well. Quote
