jsracing Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 So, I just bought a used 2001 Banshee last week and now the motor is gone. The pistons broke. Not sure why? Any ideas? I took it out once and it ran great. Checked it up, changed the oil and spark plugs. So sad. Quote

jsracing Posted December 29, 2006 Author Report Posted December 29, 2006 Not sure what happened. I'm thinking it leaned out, but why though? We didn't make any adjustments from what the previous owner had. It ran great last weekend. Quote
23champ Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 would you be interested in selling the motor? Quote
LiftdT4R Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Damn dude, that's vague as can be. You could have done a number of things, as well as the previous owner. Could have just been time for a top end. It most likely leaned out, either an air leak somewhere, incorrect jetting, etc etc. You should have mixed somewhere around 32:1, more wouldnt hurt it, itll just run like shit, less could be bad. Gonna need way more info to determine a cause though. Quote
jsracing Posted December 29, 2006 Author Report Posted December 29, 2006 So, we took it in and here's the verdict. The piston sleeve/cylinder wall was loose on the exhaust side, which caused it to rattle. Quote
sandmouse Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 damn dude that sucks. let me tell ya something. when i got my shee. it was all stock and i wanted to do somethings to it. so i got all the stuff i needed. k&n, timing plate, etc...i went ahead and put those things on and then i took it to a pretty good shop locally and he has a dyno. so we dyno'ed it to get the air fuel mixture correct. so i wouldnt do what you did. maybe some of you guys think i'm a dumbass for taking it in but this is the 1st twin cylinder/carb bike i'v ever owned. i didnt want to f-it up. and i'm not made of money so it would take a while for me to fix it. sorry about you new bike buddy. hope you get it fixed and are able to enjoy it soon.
