99,88banshee Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 This is for my dads banshee, We had it port and polished by a local engine builder. He does good work. Anyways after the port job was done it seems to have lost lowend performance. Top end is great but low end is a little un-predictable like you have to throtle it up a little. Has a fresh motor, only .02 over, cool head 20cc domes, fmf gnarly pipes and silencers, new clutch, 4deg. key in flywheel for trail, v-force reeds, k&n filter. Motor runs excellent but to take off i have to throtle it up a little like it kind of bogs alittle. Has stock carbs and i have only messed with jets no needles or anything. Please help or my dad says he is getting a 4-stroke. Thanks everyone. Quote
BigRed350x Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 If the port job is good its probably just a jetting issue. The the port job is whack then it will totally screw you up like that. :: Quote
FASTOYS Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 Always best to consult your builder/porter first but you might try to richen the air fuel screws. Try maybe 1/2 turn out IF stock pilots and see what that does! Quote
Guest nightmare Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 Move your needle clip up one notch. Quote
99,88banshee Posted November 30, 2006 Author Report Posted November 30, 2006 I have not touched the needles just main jet. THis bike is a rocket up top but low end if you try to set up a low speed jump and try to time the gas at the top to get a good lift, it kind of falls on its face. Thanks everyone i am going to try all your suggestions. but keep them coming. Quote
SandShots Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 bogging at take off? sounds like a jetting issue. raise the needle get some more juice in there. Quote

I would think after a fresh rebuild and a new port job you would really need to start over with your jetting, needles and carb adjustments.... Make sure everything is in sync, re-adjust your idle screws, then experiment with clip settings to find the best spot. Then work on your mains witha plug chop. If you are sure everything is adjusted as it should be on the pilot circuit/needles, you may have just lost something with the porting job... From what I have read, porting seems to be a bit of trade off sometimes.. How extreme is the porting ? Quote
baddsheee Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 I am having the same issue here. I got some larger pilot jets coming on the way. I had to have the air screws in all the way for it run somewhat good. I can launch on 1st with no prob but 2nd gear just kind of bogs. The top end screams. Play around with your jetting. Always a good idea to talk to the person who did the work, if he knows how to port I'm pretty sure he should know some jetting requests for you. Quote
99,88banshee Posted December 1, 2006 Author Report Posted December 1, 2006 Ok this weekend i will talk to the guy who did the port job. I will also try and move the needle clip up one. I am only running a 230 or so jet for my main, is that small? I cheack the plugs and they seem to be a dark tan. Quote
FASTOYS Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Umm , yes unless your running your lid with snorkle. Sounds like you might want to talk further with your builder! Quote

wesw Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 you need to be 320 plus most likely. dont run it very long you'll be buying a new top end. try like a 27.5 pilot, 4th clip and 340s and go from there. depending on your elevation. Quote

Thanks for the help Quote
wesw Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 stock pilot is a 25, clip is middle or 3rd. with t5, open box, vf2 i was stock pilot, 4th clip on needle and 320s roughly depending on temps Quote
