blak banshee Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Ive decided to stop looking for a trailer to buy and decided to build my own. I see the trailer kit websites have a resonable kit for what I need and its hella cheaper than what people are asking for their used ones around here. I have my own welder that can handle up to 1/4" steel, so what I need to know is a good source for angle steel to build my trailer. Can anyone recommend a source? Or have you dealt with the trailer kit companies? If it helps, I am either building a 8'w X 6'L or a 5wx12L. Seems like the normal length for angle steel is 8' (considering shipping companies) Any info is appreciated guys. I am near NYC, so the closer, the better. Safe and Happy Holidays to all! Quote

blak banshee Posted November 28, 2006 Author Report Posted November 28, 2006 Thats not a bad deal, I checked and it comes out to 260 shipped for me. It also folds up. How long have you had yours, how has it held up? Im gonna talk with my girl when she gets home from work, probably gonna order it. Quote
racer Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 im pretty sure that in NYC you can find at least one steel yard, and it doesnt come in 8ft lengths, at least not where i shop. they are typically 24 or 20ft sticks. so if you drive up and have 2 24's cut into three pieces each you have some of your cutting almost done. and depending on how much you want, and how heavy you want it, it maybe as little as 20-25 bucks a stick. plus that will be much heavier (read: longer lasting and better towing) than a lightweight HF trailer. ive bought many tools at HF, and its good for saving money. this trailer is probably good for lawn mowers and things of the such; but if it takes a shit with your quad, and possibly another, on the back your gonna wish you had dropped some more coin on that steel. plus if you build it yourself you can add neat features like a long tongue, spare tire rack, dog box, whatever. csrmel Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 the hf trailer is pretty good. ive read enough reviews of it from sportbike forums and stuff that i dont think its going to just crap out randomly. one guy hauls 2 sport bikes on his and he had over 20 thousand miles on the trailer! scooter Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 i agree you dont want to scrimp on your trailer . i would think any decent welding shop or steele yard would have the steele you need in any lenght you need Quote
smackdaddy Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 I bought one that is about the same thing from BI-MART over here in oregon and having a welding shop you cant beat the price!!I also had to extend the the tounge about 2 feet with 2"x1.5"x.120 wall tube and get bigger and stronger tires and wheels! My bro borrowed it last weekend and went to load it up with fire wood and decided to go to his work to way it and it wayed in at over 3000 lbs!!!!The trailer itself stock is rated at 900lbs,just going to say these trailers are a good deal for the buck Quote
