CFM Posted November 23, 2006 Report Posted November 23, 2006 sorry man but if that is aluminum your not gonna be welding that with a wire...your gonna get it tigged which u absolutly need to have cleaned...ive worked in a fab and repair shop for 5 years and even when we fix aluminum nickel haulers we have to clean it with some kind of acid to make it bare......your best off cleaning Actually, you/someone can do it with a allum. spool gun on higher end Miller units.. 251 and up. Requires 100%Argon gas versus 75/25 gas mix. If replacement cost is 25, go with that, way less headaches. Otherwise TIG it and don't worry about contamination.. It's an exaust pipe, they wear out... TIG will discolor and ruin the chrome finish in the immediate area, leading to future peeling and rust issues. MIG with a spool gun will look ugly and still ruin the finish unless coated afterwards. 3 Posted November 25, 2006 Author Report Posted November 25, 2006 We welded it last night, me and Spike on the HQ. Turn out really good, we just brushed the chrome on a steel wire wheel and welded. Quote
