98 banshee with mods, which octane to run?

Recommended Posts

Ok did a search ,did get alot of differ info. but just curious for my personal situation. Got a 98 banshee:

bored .80 over (just done)

milled head

alien dmc exhaust

adjustable timing plate( set on +4 as I type)

reed spacers

did compression test got 200 in each jug ( did few differ times got same)

So my question is the place i can get racing fuel has 112 octane, and 119 octane. Which would be to my advantage to run? Also leave my timing where it's at or not?

thanks for your time,

billie.

well first off if your not running bigger carbs you dont need that spacer...

but 200 lbs is really high you got a stroker or is it stock crank? you should be ok on the 112...

Someone cut that head too thin. Get a new one.

NO WAY you should have that much compression...period.

Not to mention, that is going to destroy that crank if it hasn't been welded.

I'd bet the squish is so tight, it's only a matter of time before that thing gernades...

I run 185PSi or so in my cub, NOSS Head, not sure on dome size....big bore domes.

I run 110 octane all day. (Switching to alky...)

But, I'm 100% certain my squish clearance is acceptable....no pinging, detonating or preignition...

Normally I'd say the tester itself is suspect...but, if you're running that much compression, with 113 octane gas and only 4 degrees of timing, yeah....that head is fubar....

Get a NOSS head or another stocker, and have .025 or .030 milled off.

PM Rocketboy here, I know he machines them...and might have one laying around.

HELL YES!!!!

You're lucky, that motor is telling you something....a 20 dollar head gasket is a lot cheaper than a top end and crank!

I almost asked you if it was popping gaskets....

Yeah, I would stop running that bike all together, it's only going to get more expensive to fix!!

so basically it ran fine before when it was bored .20 over and had the same head on it. But boring it to .80 over and using the same head causes the problem because of the head being milled to far and more compression from being .80 over now? just want to make sure i understand what your saying.

thanks,

Billie
