banshee0509 Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 hey guys i want opinions on these mods, im on a budget so would these mods show some kind of notice in power timing plate mod i think its +6 it's hitting all the way to the right, lighten flywheel they only shaved the radius on both sides of the weights, head shved .035 and i also drilled and tapped the carbs and removed the tors. still havent installed nothing just wanted to see if it will be noticeable. everything is stock except for t5s and boyesen power reeds thanks guys. baddsheee Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 The TORS removal is only an improvement to your carbs, easier for jetting, less weight and a cleaner look. Look TORS up and you can find many topics about it. Shaving you head will give you higher compression and therefore more power. Advancing the timing will also but +6 might be a little too much. Lightening the flywheel will let you rev quicker. Hope that helps. Quote

TORS, as mentioned, will not necessarily make it faster, or more reliable (meaning, I never had any problems with my TORS system in 3+ years, and a perfectly functioning TORS does not limit performance in any way). Be forewarned, by shaving the head (raising compression) and running that much timing you should almost certainly need to run around a 50/50 mix of race fuel. Check the compression after you install the head, but unless you are at higher elevation, you will probably need a race blend. As far as the flywheel is concerned, unless they manually grind the section between the pickups (not weights), its pretty hard to lathe between sections when it is rotating. :biggrin: So all lightened flywheels that I have seen are machined this way. You should be pretty happy with those mods. Think about some kind of air filter system to get rid of the airbox, unless you ride in wet, muddy areas. Quote

Solid advice, just what I was thinking as I was reading the original post. With a plate and shaved flywheel...it woke my stock motor with T5's right up...and I loved it!!! Quicker and easier to keep on the pipe, even my 4 stroke riding buddy was impressed how much it changed the characteristics of the bike... Quote

But, I would say that general consensus is around 150 psi and up you should start running a blend, with NO timing advance. I haven't messed with shaved heads that much, but at .035 off and timing advance (whether it's at +4 or +6, which you need to determine...) I can't see a way around a mix of race/premium. I've always opted for a bit more octane, as it beats the alternative. To give you an idea, I kick close to 190 psi and +4* at sea level, and I run 100% Trick 114. I would bet you'll be in the 160-170 range (shaved head guys correct me if I'm wrong), so if it were me I would probably run 60% race (3 gallons race and 2 premium because it's easy in 5 gallon jugs). If you havent milled your head yet and if your wallet allows it, try the cool head for under 200 bucks. 21cc domes would be ideal. Dont' overdue it like me w/ 19s on stock motor. Quote
