OnlyA2Stroke Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 (edited) Ok both my carbs are leaking gas out the the drain hose at the bottom of the carb. Are those valves always open? I can blow air through them and feel air come out the inside brass tube inside the bowl. How do I measure the float height(21mm I think). The gas only leaks out with the fuel is in the on position. I have 290 mains, dyno jet needles(4th clip), stock pilots and 1 1/4 turns on the mix screw. Here is what I have done. I have cleaned the carbs with carb cleaner and compressed air. I tried removing the screws that opens the carb bowl's drain system but the screws are now stripped. :baseball_bat: I am confused and the only thing I know to do is take it to a shop but this is probably an easy fix. Maybe new carb bowls? 06 Banshee Black w/ Purple Flames T-5's(290 mains & dynojet needles) K&N filter(outerweared) w/ pro flow adapter & no lid V-force 3's Noss Machine Cool Head w/ 21cc domes 20x11x10 Turf Tamers PRM skid plate Edited September 3, 2006 by OnlyA2Stroke Quote

Then take some fuel line (couple inches or whatever you have) and slip it on the gas inlet. Then blow with your mouth (not compressed air) into the hose. slowly start tilting your carb upside down as your blowing. It should stop passing air as your simulating the floats raising. if you can still hear air passing through then take your bowl off and remove the floats and clean out the....shit brain fart.....the valve that lets the gas into the bowl. I know the name just having one of those moments. by the way this will work so try it its a fast and easy way to trouble shoot. Let me know how it went if you decide to do it k Quote

Let me know how it went if you decide to do it k I took apart both carbs. Only one is leaking now and it is on the right side. I can't figure out how to get the valve off inside the carb that lets the fuel in. I tried the idea you gave me and as I turn the carbs upside down air slowly stops coming through and then stops. Gas is still coming out of the carb bowl drain hose when I turn the fuel on. Am I missing something? Quote
sheefreak Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 The screws you stripped are notorious for doing so. I never use them anyway, I just take the carbs off and take off the bowls to empty or clean. Either the float height is off, or the needle is not sealing when the bowls are full. Make sure that little needle moves freely in the tube. Then a visual way to chaeck to see if the foats are ok is hold the carb right side up w/the bows off. Now gently push the floats up(as to simulate the bowls filling) and watch to see if the needle seats before the float hits max height. If it doesn't, bend the tab on the floats just a hair untill they do. Should solve your problem. When you clean your carbs or have the bowls off for any reason, all it takes is a little bump to the floats to throw them off. Quote
