jlsparky7 Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Im thinking I need a new clutch in my R6. If anyone has a page to a good reliable sportbike site that would be appreciated but ill post my prob here too and see if anyone has an answer. I bought the bike in august of last year it seems like its been "skipping" in 1st and 2nd gear at full throttle at about 7-8000rpms. It is carburated but the owner (one of my friends) had it professionally jetted with an O2 sensor so i definitley dont think its the jetting. The clutch is about 3 years old and I think he beat the hell out of it (went through 1 clutch in under 2 years). Is there any chance it is something other than the clutch? Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated. He did install the clutch himself and im thinking he might have done something wrong. Quote
enFORCER Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Hmmm, if it feels like it's popping in and out of gear it might be the transmission. Worn or damaged gear dogs can cause this. As well as a bent shift fork. Quote

I'm not sure what you mean by "skipping" as I've not heard that terminology (not saying it's not valid), but if you feel the clutch slipping, it's feels like your power drops off, but the motor still sounds like it's pulling hard. Jetting sounds like a flat spot in a certain rpm range. 3 years on an abused clutch is pretty good. My VMAX would slip at the track after several runs when it was still relatively new (3K miles). I had a heavy duty clutch in my race Thunderace and it handled a lot of power/abuse without slippage. I never bought any parts online for my bikes as my friend owns a race shop, but you can try this site and maybe it'll have some better info./knowledge. http://www.r6-forum.com/ Edited September 1, 2006 by nomad Quote
Skidmark Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 I know this has nothing to do with your question but did you know you can put R6 clutches in a banshee? :baseball_w00t: Quote

I dont think its slipping out of gear, unless it can slip out and go right back. I wont take corners fast because of it. The more i think about it the more it seems like a tranny prob. Theres no way a clutch could make the bike jolt hard right? It would just make it seem like it loses power? Anything i can do to see if its the clutch or tranny without ripping the thing apart? Ive never gotten into the motor or trans of a bike or quad before. Thanks for the sites, i know enforcer has an r6 clutch in his bike but i didnt know that they fit stock. Thanks for the info. R6's are notorious for the trannys being bad. My buddy had one, did the same thing yours is doing. 2nd gear would "jolt" real bad when you gave her hell. My guess is your tranny is fucked, bent shift fork. My buddy bought a new motor off ebay and dropped it in to fix his problem. Quote
