peterlocal22 Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 i just bought a used moose thumb throttle. i was in the middle of taking the old one off when i relized there are two wires in the original one. i think one is the throttle and the other is maybe tors? do they both get hooked up int the new moose throttle? also how do you get the old cable out of the old thumb throttle? thanks Quote
dajogejr Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Both wires going into the stock thumb throttle are for the TORS. Do you still have the TORS on the bike? Quote
peterlocal22 Posted August 8, 2006 Author Report Posted August 8, 2006 yes i do and i think i would like to keep it if possible? Quote
dajogejr Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 Any good reason for keeping it...other than saving 50 bucks or so for a removal kit? Quote
peterlocal22 Posted August 9, 2006 Author Report Posted August 9, 2006 ive done some research and alot of people say to take it off because its not needed, but then theres also alot of people who say its a good thing to have safety wise and so you dont burn your motor out. so i would like to keep it if i can. why does it need to go in order to hook up the moose thumb throttle? watkins Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 Depends on how the moost setup is. Does it have a place for the TORS switch and wires? If not then it is probably for a good reason (TORS is complete junk and its purpose is worthless) Quote
dajogejr Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 There is absolutely nothing the TORS does to prevent you from burning your motor out. The only thing it does, if it actually works, is kill the ignition in the event one or both of the slides stick.... If it actually worked all the time, I'd say keep it...but, since it's proven to be more of a hassle than what it's worth...I'd honestly say unplug all the TORS Hardware for now, and get the removal kit when possible. I am in 100% agreement... before I started the bike for the first time after getting it new from the Dealer I took TORS off and replaced the other worthless stock part which was the air filter setup. differentstrokes Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 If I'm not mistaken the moose throttle needs a 10mm cable also. It's identical to the terry cable throttle and doesn't have a connection for the TORS. Spend the $50-60 bucks and get the eliminator kit while you're doing everything now. It's way easier to work on the carbs and cleans up the motor some. I had nothing but trouble out of the TORS on my stock carbs when I had them. Quote
