nicktoney Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 well, i have trinity stage IV pipes, a k&n in airbox, and boysen super stock pedals, my jetting is 300mains, needle 4th clip down, 2 turns out on screw and 27.5 pilots... my shee seems to spit and sputter til power hits hard after like 1/4 throttle, maybe closer to 1/2... my elevation is at 12-1400ft, 80* temps... do i just need a bigger pilot to solve this? ellison445 Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Pull the choke out and take her for a spin, If that fixes the problem you need a bigger pilot. If it starts running worst, chances are your too rich on your pilot. Quote

Run your airscrew in to 1turn out. And see how it acts.If its more toward half throttle you may need to drop the clip on the needle to the bottom. But the choke is a good way to start finding out which way to go.You shouldnt need a 30pilot.How do your plugs look? dajogejr Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 I'd bet your loaded up on the pilot circuit. Put the stock pilots back in, (25) and set the air screws to 1 turn out. If you were running NO airbox maybe you'd need 27.5. People don't realize how good the pilot circuit on stock carbs flow... I think if you do Ellison's choke trick, it'll fall flat on it's face and just about stall out. I'd also move the clip back to third clip (middle, stock)... I bet your feeding it too much fuel from idle to mid...the mains sound pretty close. Quote
nicktoney Posted August 10, 2006 Author Report Posted August 10, 2006 so far all ive done is adjusted the airscrew so its only 1 turn out and my bike seems to be 'surging' on top end.. whats the deal? Quote
dajogejr Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 Air screw and pilot have nothing to do with top end. What do your plugs look like? Done a plug chop yet? Are you using fresh gas and oil, and new spark plugs as well? Quote
KlotzBanshee Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 Nicktoney, I'm running a similar set up on mine and am in the process of dialing the carbs to near perfection. Keep in mind I'm at about 800 ft and have some slightly diff mods (check my profile and photo album). Anyway, after a few changes from what Trinity recomended I'm now at 310 mains - 3rd clip on the stock needles - 27.5 pilots - 2 turns out on the air screws. It's not quit perfect but it's getting closer with every adjustment. That's good for about 70 to 95 degrees give or take. Hope that helps a little  Quote
nicktoney Posted August 11, 2006 Author Report Posted August 11, 2006 alright, from what i can tell, most of the spitting down low disappeared since i have had the screw turned out a turn and i took the box lid completely off... so now im just having this surging with the top end... maybe i should put some 280 mains in? ill try putting the needle back to 3rd clip and stock pilots in, and ill get a plug chop either tonight or tomorrow Quote
KlotzBanshee Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 Further describe what you mean by surging on the top end. I can't imagine what could be described as surging with out thinking of a sliping clutch or an air leak??? maybe I'm just a little slow today? IDK. Quote
nicktoney Posted August 11, 2006 Author Report Posted August 11, 2006 well its just that... power surging... likkkkeeee it comes on and pulls hard then bogs a bit and hits again.....
