LiftdT4R Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 Ok, I am going to send out my hubs to be pwodercoated, and I didn't want to send the wheel studs out with them. I know this is a stupid question, but what is the easiest way to get the studs out? I have always just pounded them out on other quads, and I'm guessing that is pretty much the only way. If anyone has any suggestions, or could point me to a reference link, that would be awesome. Thanks! Quote
Big Blue Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 Just out of curiosity why do you need the studs out? Quote
racer Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 i tihnk it would look pretty cool to have the studs powdercoated along with the hub. when you get them back run a die over the threads to remove the coating where its not needed. then once everything is bolted up the stud ends are whatever color. Big Blue Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 They can wrap the studd to keep the powder off the threads, its some funky tape that resists heat. Quote

DRI4life Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 use a press.. and the PC company should already know to cover and plug all threads Quote
LiftdT4R Posted August 7, 2006 Author Report Posted August 7, 2006 Yeah, I got an e-mail back from them, and they said they should be fine. Just come to think of it though, arent the hubs aluminum? I had them off to do new rotors up front, and my buddy was like "ohh man, that would be sick if you got them powder coated blue to match the bike" So I figured what the hell, being half in the bag and all. I went to look at them today, and they definately look pitted and not rusted. Thanks again, Jay Quote
racer Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 i believe the fronts are alum, and i know the rear are steel. however both are very rough castings with finish machine work as needed, ie the bores for the bearings and so forth. so thats why they seem so pitted. Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 How bout some pics of that finished product?? Thanks. Quote
LiftdT4R Posted August 8, 2006 Author Report Posted August 8, 2006 How bout some pics of that finished product?? Thanks. Didnt even get a chance to send them out yet, I'm gonna have the dealer take out the bearings, they are friggin' IMPOSSIBLE, I read the clymer, and nobody around here has ever heard of the "bearing removal tool" they speak of, and I can't get their "hit the bearing around the edge with a drift pin until it comes out" to work. But I will absolutely post pics when I get them back, the same guy is doing my pipes too, and he does awesome work. I gotta give him a bump, http://home.earthlink.net/~callmej75/ I met him on the Toyota board I go to, and he has done a few parts for ym truck. Awesome guy, he's located in MD. Quote
