J-Madd Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 :shoothead: Last night my POS plastic siphon pump broke, so I took it off and loosely tightened the caps on top of my drum. I normally keep it covered to keep rain off of the top, but didn't last night b/c I'm gonna get a new pump today. Well needless to say, it rained cats and dogs this morning. I ran home from work and covered it but I'm not sure if water seeped in. Will HEET or some additive get rid of the water or is there a way to even tell if there is water in the gas? I wasn't sure where to post this but fuel goes through jets, which eventually goes through exhaust :baseball_innocent: Quote
csrmel Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 contrary to popular belief, fuel and water wont mix, and the water will be right down at the very bottom of the drum. dont worry about it too much. just dont suck up fuel from the very bottom of the drum. when the drum is low on fuel then pump it all, water included, into a couple of gas cans. you can then work the water out of the gas via slowly pouring the gas out and frequently checking inside the gas can with a light untill you see the water level. J-Madd Posted August 5, 2006 Author Report Posted August 5, 2006 :baseball_sleep: duhhhhhhhhhhh . Hell I've had a billion hours of chemistry, physics, etc. Gasoline is a non-polar, hydrocarbon substance and won't substantially mix with a polar substance i.e. H2O. I guess I asked the question, b/c if their is a little moisture in your actual GAS TANK that is a bad thing. But the gas is churning and intermingling with the water wich can "mix" long enough to enter the carb; which won't happen in a fuel drum that is sitting still. Damn how quick you forget the most basic shit sometimes. :yelrotflmao: Thanks. Quote

slowpokebanshee Posted August 5, 2006 Report Posted August 5, 2006 easy way to check for sure is get a glass bottle (empty corona bottle works well) and take a sample from your drum, let it sit over night, if there is water in your sample, you will be able to tell by looking at it, it will have seperated, and yes it will be on the bottom.....good luck Quote
