platinumjason Posted June 24, 2006 Report Posted June 24, 2006 Well, got the Banshee back from the builder Wednesday. Putted around the yard with it about 10 minutes and about another 10 at my girlfriends house. Today, Saturday I take it to Silver Lake, Get out on the dunes, hit test hill and go over and all the rest that follows, go down by where the drag strip is (when it isnt flooded) and decide I'd make a pass down it to see how it goes being I couldnt get it out of 3rd in my yard. So anyway as Im heading towards the start from the opposite direction in 4th gear about half throttle and go to hit it and it just starts bogging and dies down like it ran out of gas I look down made sure gas was on and it is. Im still rolling at this time so I down shift to 2nd and try to give it some juice and nothing, the thing will barely pull itself I leave it running, jump off check exhaust. barely anything is coming out. So now I bring it home, Im tempted to tear the head off thinking I will be finding a giant hole in one or both of my brand new pistons. Only thing that keeps me from doing it is having my builder say it was something I messed up with it and nothing he did which is whats keeping me from tearing it down. On the other hand though I want to see what it looks like so I know hes not going to try to end up screwing me over. The only thing I can think of is he jetted it wrong? I dont know what else really could happen in the 5-8 minutes tops I was out there riding around. What do you guys think I should do? Quote
pipebomb Posted June 24, 2006 Report Posted June 24, 2006 pop the plugs and do a compression test. if there is a hole in one or both pistons it will show w/ zip for compression in that cylinder. Quote
platinumjason Posted June 24, 2006 Author Report Posted June 24, 2006 Alright, Ill check that before I take the head off. 14mm fine thread is what I need right? Quote
pipebomb Posted June 24, 2006 Report Posted June 24, 2006 yup. that should help you narrow down if it's just a bad leak(stuck or broken rings) or a full blown hole. that way you at least have an idea what to expect when you pop the head. Quote
lowriderb Posted June 24, 2006 Report Posted June 24, 2006 did you do any tuning on it? (you didnt say) reason i say that is because people will bench tune their bikes all day long and when they try it in the real world what they were either told or figured they needed was not right but they didnt check it.. if it wasnt lean as hell then you had/have an air leak.. platinumjason Posted June 24, 2006 Author Report Posted June 24, 2006 Nope I didnt touch it, I left it like he had it setup. The bike still starts and runs, and almost idles but dies after about 5-10 seconds after its started if Im not on the throttle. Quote
platinumjason Posted June 25, 2006 Author Report Posted June 25, 2006 Check left side plug while I was at the dunes, looked great. Just checked the right though look like the ride side carb leaned out and burned half of the electrode off the plug and drop it down on my piston. Im gonna take a whack and say air leak being the clamp on filters/outwears just saw their first use today. =\ Quote
