Quite a while back I went from FMF Gnarlies to Rockets. My jetting just went up a couple sizes on the mains, from 290's to 310's. If the only thing you are changing is the pipes, depending on what you had before (like FMF's), you may need to go up a couple sizes.

Not necessarily, Ellison. My 4mm ported motor with CPI's used 320 main jets in my stock carbs. Buddy of mine with the same setup only he ran T5's, was up around 400 on the main jet. Does that mean that T5's flow better than CPI's? Actually, come to think of it, 1dir racing g3 powercurve reeds comes to mind..."more flow, more go" lmao...anyway.

I think alot of it has to do with the pipe restuffing the cylinder with the reflected wave in the pipe. Therefore, more fuel ends up in the cylinder with less jetting, because the pipe and cylinder port layout are in sync with each other and operate more efficiently.

The planet sand guys are the ones with the $$ and the testing. The average HQ'er is just your average guy with a banshee and no dyno in the shop. And that's fine, because most people on HQ aren't drag racers either. But Rockets and CPI's are drag pipes. On planet sand, I'd bet you that nearly 99% of the knowledgeable people would recommend CPI over Rockets. Is it a conspiracy? I highly doubt it. Those guys would sacrifice their first born to the banshee gods if it shaved .1 off their 300 ft times.

In my opinion, the Rockets are the most overhyped pipe I ever heard of, and it only seems to happen here on the good ol' HQ. True, I've never run them or dyno'd them myself, but I tried and was promised on more than one occasion a set to dyno on my bike. I remember quotes like "come hell or high water, I'll get you a set of pipes" or "if I have to pull them off my bike to get you a set, that's how committed I am". I probably welched on 5 different dyno sessions because as could probably surmise, no rocket pipes ever showed up.

I dont think it would hurt to just throw them on and do a plug check with your current jetting. From what I've heard CPI is supposed to be a more efficient pipe than rockets, ie they dont need quite as big of a main, but there has also been dyno tests by I believe Loco and PassionRE comparing Rockets and CPI and they said that the jetting from one to the other was close enough to use the same settings. Soooo... Maybe just try it like it is.
